Description
*** Please note: I've lowered the reserve. Please bid often if you're serious! Compukit UK101 single board computer using the 6502 microprocessor. Really nice! Working condition - see startup screen on vintage Grundig TV "monitor" (this TV is NOT included in this listing, it is a dual supply Eg. 240VAC or 12VDC television - for the test shown I used a 12VDC supply from a small bench power supply - it really needs a 12VDC supply capable of providing a few amps I think.) I tried some basic BASIC code to check it out and all is well. The Compukit UK101 was, as I recall, a UK version of the Ohio Superboard single board computer. The "single board" description refers to the fact that the board included a full ASCII keyboard, UHF video modulator, power supply, 8k RAM (installed), 8k Microsoft BASIC in ROM, 2k video memory, interface sockets, cassette interface and machine code monitor. Description from the front of the manual follows (with some added comments): 8k Microsoft , full feature , BASIC (really nice - not integer BASIC of lesser computers - this was the full version Fully expandable via on board sockets (I installed the optional buffer ICs to allow me to use the offboard interface board I constructed) Up to 8k RAM on board (this is fully populated on this computer - uses 2114 1k x 4 bit ICs - two for each 1k memory) Cassette interface (CUTS) [referred to the Cassette User Tape System standard) VDU - with its own dedicated RAM (1k) VDU stands for Video Display Unit - a big deal back when this computer was released Full ASCII keyboard - a real keyboard, not some tactile button keypad UHF modulator on board PSU on board - transformer included in kit (see comments about the transformer requirements and the upgrade to the 5V regulator heatsink Full machine code monitor (software to allow machine code programming) and I/O utilities in ROM Upper/lower case - graphics and gaming characters. (The computer uses block graphics) This listing includes the following: UK101 single board computer with original cardboard box, software on cassettes [original sample games; 6502 extended monitor software; an adventure game ("Hidden World"); as well as several games and utilities that I typed in and saved. I don't know if all of this software has survived the years - I'll include them I but can't vouch for their integrity], standard power supply (this is a UK power supply - it is a regular transformer that requires 240V input and provides 8V for the 5V linear regulator used to power the board - note that I installed the 5V regulator off the board on its own heatsink as the original heatsink used to run too hot for comfort! Note - this transformer must either be preceded by a step-up transformer to allow it to be used with 110V US line voltage (as I did to demonstrate it for the picture shown), or replaced completely by a 110V input transformer with 8V output - a higher output transformer (like 9V for example could be used - but the 5V regulator will run a little warmer) - not Rocket Science but you do need to do this), home built interface board for experimentation - this includes lots of memory decoding and a 6821, cables for cassette interface and TV (a TV is used as a "video monitor" - please see my other listing for the TV I bought to use with this computer - the TV shown in the picture is just to show the computer operating - if you need the TV also, please see my other listing), original manual (by the designer - Dr A.A Berk - includes full building instructions and circuit diagrams - this was bought as a kit when I was a student), several magazine articles by D.E. Graham describing how to interface to the computer and program in BASIC and 6502 machine code, cassette interface upgrade circuits, video display upgrade modification article (I did this, it removed some flicker due to screen refresh as I recall - the modifications are just wire jumpers on the topside of the board), articles on speech synthesis by Dr A.A Berk, several "Micro Prompt" articles published by Practical Electronics magazine - many of which discussed programs, upgrades etc for the UK101, an article on an assembler for the 6502 - allows the use of mnemonics rather than machine code, an article on an assembler for the Commodore PET (written in BASIC). I didn't include pictures of all of the articles but they're all very interesting and clean. Paypal only or personal check if you can wait for it to clear. Worldwide shipping - I'll ship at cost +$3 packaging fee. It weighs around 10 lb [for the computer, box, cassettes, expansion board, power supply etc - eg. all that is listed above], so add a couple of pounds for packaging and that should be adequate for an estimate - I've used this number for the shipping calculator to give an approximate indication but I'll adjust it at checkout. By the way, the Grundig television (the accompanying listing) weighs about 18 pounds - but that's a different listing of course. Thanks again!. Please note that there will be no spurious shipping charges - check my feedback - I'm honest. Return OK within 7 days less shipping and shipped back at your cost (I will need to check the computer is still operational - please only bid/buy this computer if you know what you are doing - this isn't meant for children or beginners. If you need the TV please see my other listing. Insurance is required. I think that eBay shows that this is included in the shipping charge but it isn't. It needs to have insurance of course to protect both parties. We can sort out the details at checkout to both parties satisfaction. I won't use any spurious shipping charges. Thanks again!
